Different parts of the heavy automobiles contain special bearings that help to carry large amounts of loads of the machineries. All the cars, trucks, mining vehicles and other heavy vehicles used in engineering works are made of various kinds of rolling bearings, for easy operations of the engines and other body parts. Normally, the ball bearing rollers are made of rolling balls held between two rings that are termed as races. The overall movements of these races and ball bearings result in much lesser frictional resistance, during the smooth running of these automobiles. Few types of rolling ball bearings applied while manufacturing vehicles Cylindrical roller bearings are very frequently seen in the car machineries, where small cylindrical rollers are fitted between the steel races, instead of spherical balls. As these cylindrical rollers have larger surface areas for taking the loads uniformly, this is the most popular type of automobile bearing used in fast driving vehicles. Moreover, the outer or inner rings of these bearings are free from any extra cover, for which the whole roller bearing system can move faster than the other types. The spherical roller bearings are designed to handle heavier loads and the operations of these bearings are more frictional in nature. However, the spherical roller thrust bearing offers lesser friction while rotating on the car machineries. There are varieties in this type of roller bearing, based on the exact shape and the dimensions of the roller shafts. But this special bearing can take very heavy loads and thus widely used in all large vehicles, in spite of its high manufacturing expense. Tapered roller bearings are designed to carry both radial and axial loads, due to the conical shaped rollers fitted between similar conical races. This specific roller bearing with larger surface area is used mainly in the wheel bearings of the vehicles that run on the land surface. This bearing is mostly made of high carbon chrome steel, due to the appropriate friction offered by this chemically treated metal. The presence of strong steel cage around it makes this roller bearing highly durable in nature. Needle roller bearings are marked with very thin and pointed cylindrical rollers that are very long in size, compared to their diameters. This type of bearing can hold only radial loads and used mainly in the engines of the cars. There are many other structural varieties of roller bearings, classified mainly according to their physical properties that are used in the vehicles and other machines.
